Today we are reflecting not just on our business but quality time with your family and for yourself. Did you take enough time away to renew yourself and be excited about life? Did you stop and, “Smell the roses,” and see the results you had hoped for, or did 2017 turn out to be a less than successful professional and personal year full of disappointments in your family’s life and the life of your practice. If the answer makes you feel like a failure, it’s time to renew your goals. Stop and think about why you do what you do and what you can do in the future to keep your goals fresh and alive.
Perhaps you have, “silent goals,” those that no one else knows. Many times new Doctors to our program will say they have a daily production goal, “but no one else knows.” Your chances of achieving a silent goal greatly increase when you share it with others. Otherwise, that great goal will remain silent for another year. When you keep things to yourself, you have a greater chance of never achieving those goals.
Share your practice goals with your team and your personal goals with your family. When you open the doors to communication, you will be amazed at how much better you will feel about your personal and professional life. What’s Going to be Different about This Year?
It’s important that you set goals for your personal and professional life. What am I going to do different this year to meet new goals for my practice and my life? Dentistry can be very repetitive and needs renewal with addition of different skills, change of pace, more time away and bigger daily production. Are you planning to attend continuing education classes this year or are you putting it on hold because you are working five days a week?
Your team can be stuck in their routine, too. From where does the new enthusiasm come? Who originates the renewal? Team needs a new game to continue their enthusiasm. If they could produce the same or more in three days a week and you paid them for four, would they go for it? Team needs to be involved and excited to continue to perform well. Communicate with your team. Set new goals and offer incentives. You’d be amazed at how the promise of a raise or more vacation time will add a newfound excitement to the team.
What skill will you add this year? How will your team participate and become involved? They need to be enthused enough to mention on their own, the fabulous end results you are achieving for patients. Keep the entire team involved. Encourage social media marketing and give your patients something to comment and share about. When you give multiple tasks to your team providing them with a social outlet, it can help boost morale.
