Be a Dentist Ready for Change with a Dental Coach

Dental Coach

by Dr. Bill Blatchford Dental Coach

Many dentists are comfortable with the status quo, clinging to traditional methods and ways of thinking, rather than seeking the possibility of a better result.

Change is a challenge. We stay with the answers we know, rather than risking something new. In the well-known book Who Moved My Cheese?, Author Dr. Spencer Johnson shares that some people eagerly look for cheese in one spot, some reluctantly find cheese in another station, and others would rather die when the cheese is not in the same place.

In dentistry, the cheese has moved. New answers are available in sales conversations and in marketing opportunities. Are you content or is there more “cheese” to be learned?

The top 10% of dentists know there can be no final answer. A successful dental practice is a constant work in progress. Are you part of the dental revolution or are you in the stands watching?

The most exciting aspect of the dental revolution is the technical advances. Your patients want to look good, feel good, and live a long time. With bonded dentistry, new materials and techniques, you and your laboratory are able to deliver beauty, comfort and, longevity.

The insurance game is another area where doctors can feel trapped yet reluctant to change. Dentists, staff, and patients have become willing partners for 40 years. We have allowed insurance companies to market and sell dentistry in your office. If your desire is to be insurance free, you must create a new image and become very skilled in sales and listening.

As a Dental Coach it’s important for you to understand that dentists have a clear choice to continue the same or become insurance free, mentally and financially. With any change, create a plan towards insurance freedom. Do the math, work with your staff on scripting, and speak with every patient who is involved, sharing the benefits. Forever being a dental insurance provider is not necessarily the final answer.

Blatchford Coaching has led the way to another change—our patients do not NEED our Dental Coach services. Virtually everything we do is a choice. This coaching is different from what you learn and shakes the very core of insurance paradigms. When the NEED paradigm is resolved in a dentist’s mind, it creates the opportunity to help patients develop dreams of good-looking smiles. There is no final answer here, either. As the marketplace changes, the skills and attitudes in dentistry will shift, too.

Learning sales skills is a real change. Stop the pressure sales of talking patients into fixing things. Learn to ask questions about their long-term goals. Have right-brained conversations. Start a sales library. There is no final answer in the sales arena. Just when you think you have it, the marketplace changes and dentistry takes a different position of choice. To be a dentist ready for change, take a dental sales course like Blatchford Coaching.
